We are delighted to announce that Mòd Ghlaschu is going to be featured in the 2019 Celtic Connections programme.
The event will take place on Saturday the 2nd of February and will feature performances from a variety of well known singers, all of whom hold close connections to Glasgow and the Mòd. The evening will be brought together with help from a house band and performances from a variety of choirs.
It’s sure to be an excellent evening, that will put us right in the mood for October’s main event.
Heralding the Royal National Mòd’s return to Glasgow in October 2019, An Comunn Gàidhealach hosts an evening showcasing the full resplendent flowering of Scotland’s Gaelic culture today. Glasgow Gaels played a key role in the Mòd’s original instigation when, in 1891, the city’s St Columba’s Church choir were invited to perform in Oban to raise awareness of Gaelic culture. The concert’s success led to the formation of An Comunn Gàidhealach, and its first Mòd the following year. Tonight’s lavish cross-generational line-up, featuring numerous special guests, one-off collaborations and a veritable army of choirs, honours past Gaelic icons, veteran tradition-bearers and contemporary stars alike.
